Our verdict
The Oracle Jet automates the steps that make espresso hard while keeping a café-style portafilter. Its 40 mm Baratza burrs grind, dose and tamp 22 g of coffee straight into a 58 mm portafilter, the size café machines use, and Barista Guidance flags a shot that ran too fast or too slow and suggests a grind change. You still lock the portafilter in and start the shot.
Milk is hands-free. Auto MilQ has settings for dairy, soy, almond and oat milk, temperatures from 45 to 75 °C and eight texture levels, and can queue the milk to start when the shot finishes. ThermoJet heating, a heated group head you can set in 1 °C steps, a 2.3 litre tank and a hot water spout round it out, and Sage lists cold brew and cold espresso among the drinks. The touchscreen walks you through set-up and maintenance; the Sage+ Coffee app adds software updates over Wi-Fi, but the machine works without it. It weighs 12.1 kg, it is the dearest espresso machine we track, and the box holds single wall baskets only, so it is built for fresh beans.
Cleaning and running costs
The screen prompts when a back-flush cleaning cycle or a descale is due, and both can be started from Settings with on-screen steps; you need espresso cleaning tablets or powder, and descaling powder or solution. After each session Sage also suggests a quick clear-water back-flush. Test your water with the strip in the box and enter the result: at 4 or 5 bars Sage advises another water source. The ClaroSwiss filter (SES008WHT0NEU1) is changed every 3 months, and the 58 mm shower seal is part SP0001635. Parts are hand-wash only, and the 2-year guarantee excludes faults from skipped descaling or poor cleaning.
Owner reports
We read 34 Oracle Jet owner reviews, all on Sage’s own site and including its ten lowest-rated, so complaints are over-represented. Most praise the coffee, the milk and how easy the screen makes it. The critical ones repeat a few problems: three owners describe grind advice stuck at the end of its range, three found the automatic milk airy rather than silky, and a few had early faults, from a leak at two weeks to a machine that never worked. That is anecdote from one source, not a failure rate.
Who should look elsewhere
If you are happy to tamp and steam yourself, the Sage Barista Express Impress has a grinder and dose feedback for far less. If milk drinks are the point and you already own a grinder, the Sage Bambino Plus textures milk automatically. Compare them with every espresso machine we track, or read our pick of the best espresso machines for home.

Oracle Jet questions
How do I clean and back-flush the Oracle Jet?
Follow the screen. It prompts when a cleaning cycle is due, and you can also start one from Settings; the on-screen steps use an espresso cleaning tablet or powder. Between cycles, Sage suggests a clear-water back-flush after each session: put the cleaning disc in the basket, start a brew, let the pressure build for 20 seconds, then stop. Wash parts by hand, never in the dishwasher.
What water hardness setting should I use?
The one the supplied test strip shows: dip it, count the bars and enter the result on the machine. If the strip shows 4 or 5 bars, Sage advises using another water source. Sage also says to avoid reverse osmosis, distilled or very low-mineral water. Fitting the water filter and changing it every 3 months reduces how often the machine asks you to descale.
Which milks does Auto MilQ support?
Dairy, soy, almond and oat, each with its own setting. Sage’s manual lists milk temperatures from 45 to 75 °C and eight texture levels, and Auto MilQ can be queued to start as soon as the shot finishes. A 480 ml stainless jug comes in the box; Sage also sells its Temp Control jug, SES003BSS0NEU1, which has a temperature strip.
What is the part number for the 58 mm seal?
Sage sells the 58 mm shower head seal as SP0001635 and lists it for the Oracle Jet and two of its other 58 mm machines. The manual gives no fixed interval, so replace it when it is worn. Sage’s guarantee counts seals and filters as consumables, so budget for the seal and the 3-monthly ClaroSwiss filter, SES008WHT0NEU1.
Does the Oracle Jet need Wi-Fi?
No. It pairs with the Sage+ Coffee app over Wi-Fi for software updates and notifications, but Sage’s manual says it works normally without a connection. Drink settings and the cleaning and descaling prompts all run from the touchscreen on the machine, so the app is optional.
What do I do if the tank ran dry and no water comes out?
Refill the tank and prime the system: run a brew for 30 seconds, then hot water for 30 seconds, as Sage’s troubleshooting section describes. If the grinder ever needs stopping in an emergency, rotate the portafilter to the left. If the grinder motor overheats, unplug the machine and let it rest for 5 minutes before you carry on.
