Our verdict

The Creatista Plus is Sage’s take on a Nespresso Original machine, and its point is the milk. Instead of a carafe it has a stainless jug and a steam wand that froths on its own: you choose one of eight texture levels and eleven milk temperatures, from 55 to 75 °C, stand the jug on the sensor in the drip tray, and the wand stops when the milk is done. That gives you more control than a carafe machine’s fixed recipes, but you still pour the milk yourself.

Coffee comes from Original capsules, with ristretto, espresso and lungo sizes you can each adjust: 25 to 60 ml for the short drinks and 70 to 150 ml for lungo. A colour screen walks you through first use, water hardness, wand cleaning and descaling. Sage quotes a three-second heat-up from its ThermoJet heater, while Nespresso’s assistance page says about ten seconds from switch-on.

Cleaning and running costs

The routine is daily. Empty the drip tray and capsule container, rinse the jug (it can’t go in the dishwasher), then run the milk function with water in the jug before wiping the wand. If steam won’t start, clear the holes in the tip with the pin tool stored under the water tank and run Clean Steam Wand from the maintenance menu. Use cold drinking water: Nespresso says heavily filtered, demineralised or distilled water makes the steam wet. Descaling takes about 15 minutes with one sachet of Nespresso descaler (the Descaling Kit, 142420, holds two), then two rinses and ten minutes’ rest. How often depends on the hardness you set: the manual puts it at about 2,200 espresso-size drinks in the softest water and about 600 in the hardest, and the screen counts down the drinks left.

Warranty and repairs

Sage gives a two-year warranty in the UK and Ireland, handled through Nespresso’s customer line. It excludes commercial use, misuse, poor aftercare and damage from scale or descaling, so follow the descale prompts: the machine stops working if the cycle isn’t run. Your rights against the seller under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply as well, including 30 days from delivery to reject a faulty machine.

Who should look elsewhere

If you want milk drinks at a single touch, from a carafe that goes in the dishwasher, the Nespresso Vertuo Lattissima does that on Vertuo pods. If you only drink espresso or lungo, the Nespresso Essenza Mini takes the same Original capsules in a body half the width.

Compare it with every pod machine we track, or see where it sits among the best pod coffee machines.

What owners say

Owners like the Creatista Plus for café-style milk drinks from Nespresso capsules: quick, easy to use and good coffee. The milk wand needs regular purging and tip cleaning to avoid blockages, and several owners report leaks, frother faults or rust-like spots on the casing within months, though one earlier machine lasted six years.

Creatista Plus questions

How often should I descale the Sage Creatista Plus?

When the screen asks, and that depends on the water hardness you set at first use. Sage’s manual puts the interval at about 2,200 espresso-size drinks at the softest setting and about 600 at the hardest. The screen counts down the drinks left, and the machine stops working if the descale isn’t run. The cycle takes about 15 minutes with one sachet of Nespresso descaler.

What milk temperatures can the Creatista Plus reach?

From 55 to 75 °C, across eleven settings, with froth from about 2 to 30 mm deep across eight texture levels. Use the Sage jug supplied, standing on the temperature sensor in the drip tray, so the wand knows when to stop. Nespresso suggests whole or semi-skimmed milk at 4 to 6 °C; soy, almond and oat drinks can also be used.

Can the Creatista Plus milk jug go in the dishwasher?

No. The stainless jug is for washing by hand, and the machine needs it: the temperature sensor works with the Sage jug supplied. Rinse it each day, then run the milk function with water in the jug and wipe the wand. Empty the drip tray and capsule container daily too, and clear the steam tip with the pin tool if steam won’t start.

Who handles Creatista Plus warranty repairs in the UK?

Nespresso’s customer line. Sage gives the two-year warranty in the UK and Ireland, but repairs are handled through Nespresso. The warranty excludes commercial use, misuse, poor aftercare, damage from scale or descaling, and breakable or consumable parts, so keep up with the descale prompts and the daily wand cleaning to stay covered.

Why is my Creatista Plus steam wand not working?

Start with the tank and the steam tip. Check there is water in the tank, then clear the holes in the tip with the pin tool stored under the water tank and run Clean Steam Wand from the maintenance menu. If the steam comes out very wet, change the water: Nespresso advises cold drinking water, not heavily filtered, demineralised or distilled water.
