Our verdict
The Genio S Plus is De’Longhi’s Nescafé Dolce Gusto machine, model EDG315.B, and our Dolce Gusto pick. It is light, at about 2.1 kg, and built around a 15-bar pump. Opening the clamp handle and taking out the capsule holder switches it on, and it turns itself off five minutes after the last drink. De’Longhi says it makes cold drinks as well as hot ones.
There is no frother or steam wand, so the machine stays simple, and it takes Nescafé Dolce Gusto capsules only. De’Longhi’s UK listing also gives fewer specifications than its Nespresso listings: no tank size, dimensions or heat-up time. Measure your space and check those figures on the listing you buy from. We haven’t been able to read its manual either, so this page sticks to what De’Longhi publishes.
Recycling the capsules
Dolce Gusto capsules are plastic, and Podback, the not-for-profit pod recycling scheme, takes them in its green bags, kept apart from aluminium pods. Drain the liquid first; there’s no need to scoop out the grounds. Some councils collect Podback bags at the kerbside, and elsewhere there are supermarket drop-off points and containers at council recycling centres.
Who should look elsewhere
If you want a wider choice of capsules, including third-party ones, the Nespresso Essenza Mini runs on Nespresso Original capsules and publishes its full dimensions. If milk drinks matter most, the Nespresso Vertuo Lattissima makes them from fresh milk at one touch. For tea and hot chocolate as well as coffee, the Tassimo Style Friendly lists both among its discs.

Genio S Plus questions
Can the Dolce Gusto Genio S Plus make cold drinks?
Yes. De’Longhi’s UK listing says the Genio S Plus makes cold drinks as well as hot ones, from Nescafé Dolce Gusto capsules. It has no milk frother or steam wand, so any fresh milk has to be prepared separately. De’Longhi doesn’t publish the water tank size, so we can’t say how many drinks one fill makes.
How do I switch the Genio S Plus on and off?
It switches itself on when you open the clamp handle and take out the capsule holder, ready for a capsule. It switches itself off five minutes after the last drink, so you don’t need to remember to turn it off. Both are listed as features on De’Longhi’s UK product page, and the drinks themselves are made with button controls.
Where can I find the Genio S Plus manual?
On De’Longhi’s UK support centre, under the model number EDG315.B, which lists the instructions for use and a quick start guide. Search for that exact code, because De’Longhi sells several Genio S models. For descaling steps and which descaler to use, follow that manual rather than general advice: we couldn’t read it, so we don’t repeat its steps here.
How do I recycle Dolce Gusto capsules?
Through Podback, the not-for-profit pod recycling scheme set up by Nestlé and Jacobs Douwe Egberts. Plastic pods such as Dolce Gusto go in its green bags: drain the liquid, with no need to scoop out the grounds. Some councils collect the bags at the kerbside; elsewhere, use a supermarket drop-off point or a council recycling centre. Podback’s Recycle Checker shows your options.
What warranty does the Genio S Plus have?
Two years, as De’Longhi UK lists it, and De’Longhi invites owners to register the machine. Your rights against the seller apply as well: under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 you have 30 days from delivery to reject a faulty machine, and a fault that appears within six months is presumed to have been there from the start unless the seller shows otherwise.
