Our verdict
Tassimo’s appeal is that it asks almost nothing of you. Each T DISC carries a barcode, and the Style Friendly reads it and sets the amount of water, the brewing time and the temperature, then brews at one press of the button. Water is heated as it is needed, so there is no warm-up wait, and the disc range runs from espresso and latte macchiato to tea and hot chocolate.
The Style Friendly is Bosch’s current version of the compact Style. It keeps the older model’s 17.1 cm-wide body, 0.7-litre tank and 1400 W rating, but Bosch says 57% of its plastic is recycled (leaving out the parts that touch food), and it weighs 1.9 kg. The cup stand lifts out for tall glasses and mugs. The drawbacks are the small tank, picture-only instructions for setup and care, discs from one system and no milk frothing. Bosch sells it as the TAS112EGB in recycled black; the white and crema versions are the TAS114EGB and TAS117EGB.
Cleaning and running costs
Fill the tank each day with fresh, cold, still water, and don’t use chemically softened water. Care runs through the yellow service T DISC kept in the machine: it drives the cleaning programme, and the descaling programme when the descale light comes on. Tassimo suggests descaling about four times a year, with two Tassimo descaling tablets (TCZ6004, a pack of four) dissolved in a full tank, a cycle of about 30 minutes and then three or four rinses. Never use a descaler that contains phosphoric acid. The outlet, piercing unit, disc holder and cup stand can go in the dishwasher. Used T DISCs are plastic pods, which Podback takes in its green bags.
Owner reports
We read 37 owner reviews of the Style Friendly, in all three colours, on Tassimo’s own GB shop, a single source, so treat them as a rough picture. Many owners call it easy to use, and several like how little worktop it takes and say it suits one or two people. Four found the tank small or awkward to refit without spilling, one reported pods that sometimes fail to brew, and one bought the same machine again after the first stopped at about three years. That is a handful of reports, not a failure rate.
Who should look elsewhere
If you want cold drinks too, the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Genio S Plus makes them from its own capsules. If you want a wider choice of capsules, including third-party ones, the Nespresso Essenza Mini runs on Nespresso Original capsules and is about half the width.

Tassimo Style Friendly questions
How do I descale the Tassimo Style Friendly?
Run the descaling programme as soon as the descale light comes on. Dissolve two Tassimo descaling tablets in a full tank, put the yellow service T DISC in the brew head barcode-down and start the programme; it takes about 30 minutes, followed by three or four rinse cycles. Tassimo suggests descaling about four times a year. Never use a descaler that contains phosphoric acid.
What is the yellow disc that came with my Tassimo for?
It is the service T DISC, kept in the machine’s storage compartment. You put it in the brew head to run the cleaning and descaling programmes. Bosch’s manual also uses it to clear the system when brewing starts but no drink comes out, for example after the tank was lifted out mid-brew or after a long break. Keep it with the machine.
Why won’t my Tassimo read the T DISC?
With a red status light and no brewing, first check that a T DISC is in. If its barcode isn’t being read, wipe the reading window with a soft, damp cloth and smooth the disc’s foil. Use original T DISCs only, once each and never damaged. If the problem carries on, Bosch’s manual says to call the Tassimo careline.
Which descaling tablets fit Tassimo machines?
Bosch’s spec sheet for this machine names Tassimo descaling tablets, TCZ6004, in a pack of four; each descale uses two. The same sheet also gives a service part number for them, 310967. Whatever you buy, it must not contain phosphoric acid, and Tassimo says vinegar and other acid descalers can damage the machine and spoil the taste.
Why are all the lights flashing on my Tassimo?
All lights flashing points to a power problem: unplug the machine, wait five minutes and plug it back in. If two warning lights stay on together and it won’t brew, that is a fault: unplug it and call the Tassimo careline. Bosch’s manual also says never to run the machine inside a cupboard or from an extension lead or a multi-socket strip.
Why are my Tassimo drinks smaller or weaker than they used to be?
Bosch’s manual points to a dirty outlet, scale or a low tank. Clean the beverage outlet, run a cleaning cycle with the yellow service T DISC, descale if it is due, and fill the tank to the max mark. Water under the cup stand is a related sign: the manual puts it down to condensation or scale in the valves, and the fix is a descale.
