Our verdict
The E8 is for buyers who want a premium machine with as little upkeep as possible. Fit a CLARIS Smart+ filter cartridge and the machine detects it and stops asking to be descaled; it tells you when the cartridge needs replacing instead. It offers 27 specialities, ten strength levels and three brewing temperatures, and its milk pipe draws from any jug or carton, with an automatic rinse after milk drinks if you set it. It is also the lowest of our bean-to-cup picks with one-touch milk, which helps under wall cupboards.
The trade-offs are cost and features for the money. The Siemens EQ.700 has a bigger tank, two drinks at once and app control built in, where the E8 needs JURA’s optional Wi-Fi Connect for its app. JURA’s manual has no step for taking out the brewing unit; the tablet cleaning programme is the routine instead. We found no UK owner reviews of this model that we could read, so this verdict rests on JURA’s specifications and manual. JURA’s UK product page doesn’t state the warranty length, so check the term with the retailer before you buy.
Cleaning and running costs
JURA lists its care products by article number. With a CLARIS Smart+ cartridge (24232) fitted there is no descaling; without one, descaling takes about 20 minutes with three JURA descaling tablets (61848) dissolved in 500 ml of water. The machine asks for its cleaning programme after 180 drinks or 80 switch-on rinses: about 20 minutes with one cleaning tablet (24225). Clean the milk system daily when you make milk drinks, using JURA’s milk system cleaner (24158), take the fine foam frother apart weekly, and replace the HP3 milk pipe (24114) and CX3 spout (72228) about every three months. Empty the drip tray and grounds container daily with the machine switched on, so the grounds counter resets; both go in the dishwasher.
Who should look elsewhere
If you’d rather spend less and don’t mind descaling, the De’Longhi Rivelia makes one-touch milk drinks with two bean hoppers. If you only drink black coffee and need the narrowest machine, the Melitta Purista is 7 cm narrower. Compare it with every bean-to-cup machine we track, see it among compact machines that fit under kitchen cupboards, or read our pick of the best bean-to-cup coffee machines.

JURA E8 questions
Does the JURA E8 need descaling if I use a CLARIS filter?
No. With a CLARIS Smart+ cartridge (article 24232) fitted, JURA’s manual says the E8 detects it by itself and won’t prompt for descaling; it asks for a new cartridge when the old one is spent. Without a filter, set your water hardness with the Aquadur test strip and descale when asked: about 20 minutes, using three JURA descaling tablets dissolved in 500 ml of water.
How often does the JURA E8 need a cleaning tablet?
When it asks, which JURA’s manual says is after 180 preparations or 80 switch-on rinses. The cleaning programme takes about 20 minutes and uses one JURA cleaning tablet (article 24225), dropped into the ground coffee funnel. JURA sells the tablets in packs of six, so one pack covers six cleaning programmes.
How often should I change the milk pipe on a JURA E8?
About every three months. JURA’s manual lists the HP3 milk pipe with connector (article 24114) and the CX3 interchangeable milk spout (72228) as parts to replace on that cycle. In between, clean the milk system daily when you make milk drinks, using JURA milk system cleaner (24158), and take the fine foam frother apart and rinse it weekly.
Can I control the JURA E8 from my phone?
Only with an add-on. JURA’s app, J.O.E., needs the optional JURA Wi-Fi Connect V2 (article 24323) fitted in the machine’s service socket; without it, you choose drinks on the machine itself. If phone control matters to you, the Siemens EQ.700 has Home Connect app control built in.
Which parts of the JURA E8 can go in the dishwasher?
The drip tray, its insert and the grounds container, according to JURA’s manual. Empty the drip tray and grounds container every day with the machine switched on: that is what resets its grounds counter. The milk system has its own routine: a daily clean with JURA’s milk system cleaner, and a new pipe and spout about every three months.
